Yin Yoga this Winter in Thornbury!

  • Google Calendar ICS

Consider gathering this winter of 2020 to nourish your kidneys, the keeper of Jing (natal essence) in this monthly focused practice. In the Daoist ways, the kidney/bladder organs and meridian pair are the spotlight structures in our physical body during wintertime. Too much stress depletes the kidneys fostering excess fear in our psyches (manifesting as anxiety, depression, restlessness are some symptoms) and continual muscular tension in our physical bodies. When we nourish the kidneys well, we feel steeped in wisdom and our ability to mature with grace blooms. We begin to develop a loving relationship with these magnificent organs – connected to all other organs via the connective tissue web – thereby coming to love our whole self. So, this winter, we will warm the kidneys (no, this is not Hot yoga! but there will be some gentle warming), move through the biotensegrity field of “expansion/contraction”, listen to poetry (yea!), draw divination cards and write from them  - a wee smorgasbord of gentle activity enveloped within an authentic yin practice.  This is yoga: the path to integration and peacefulness with all our parts made whole.

Of any interest to you?

The week of January 20th - Tuesday January 21 (6-8pm), Thursday January 23 (6-8pm) and Friday January 24 (10 am).

The week of February 17th - Tuesday February 18 (6-8pm), Thursday February 20th (6-8pm) and Friday February 21 (10 am)

Each soulful practice will be $25

16 Bruce Street in Thornbury, Unit #5

By registration only please. Email at sneedham7@gmail.com or text/call 519-387-6204 to register. Small class size, 7 maximum.

Yin Yoga this Fall! Deep care for the Soul in You!

"The world has so much goodness

in its heart for you.

And it will

fall into you.

Be patient." (Najwa Zebian)

It is that time, to invite you into the quiet cove of yoga and movement in a yin way: nourishment, connection and belonging will be a continuous theme throughout. Infusions of poetry, narratives and the foundations of yin yoga (western science and the fascial system, the Daoist's principles of the meridian theory, yogic philosophy and the chakra system all steeped in silent meditation/prayer) will be interlaced in each class and within the series itself. So here is the scoop!

When to begin? Tuesday's starting September 17 - November 12.; 9:30 am and 6:30 pm. No class October 1.

Thursday's starting September 19th - November 21, 2019; 9:30am and 6:30. No class October 3 or October 24th.

How are we running with this? A committed series - pay for a 6 class session and you have 8 offered sessions to "complete" them in. This gives time for unexpected life to show up as it is! You can come for 8 classes (one each week) and there is a lesser rate for this (see below!). As you will notice, the above dateline is not a linear 8 weeks to do 6 sessions, rather it is a crooked schedule given some commitments that are already in play for me!

Where? My studio space at 16 Bruce Street, North in Thornbury #5. Harbour Mews building.

Moula? $90/6 classes. If you come to more classes than 6, then $10/class (a maximum of 2). Maximum 8 registrants per class. There will be a minimum number required to offer all spaces. If space allows, there may be wiggle room between both days. No guarantees but we will ride the wave of life showing up as best as we can! (Gosh I hope this all makes sense!)

Cultivating nourishment for the soul asks us to offer moments of solitude, stillness and deep listening. Soul language, in my experience, is of a shy and elusive personality - but with patience, perseverance and yielding we can hear the whispers.

Biotensegrity within our Yin yoga practice:

Functional Anatomy for the 21st Century!!

Biotensegrity:  continuous tensional integrity across, up, down, in and out within the physical- body

Functional anatomy for the 21st Century: farewell biomechanics, levers and linear movement – we see the body in movement quite different now.

Yin yoga: a perfect cauldron to explore the world of biotensegrity and then enlarge this personal felt knowledge to other yoga traditions (more dynamic practices such as Iyengar and classical Hatha) as well as other movement practices including walking, running, skiing, bicycling, dance, etc.

Come check it out! The 6 session series will be well worth it for the rest of your moving life!

This is a registered program only. Sorry no drop ins. We will run this series over an 8 week time frame so you may participate in your 6 sessions. 8 weeks gives space to varied schedules in your life. We have choice of days and times: Tuesdays at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm, Thursdays at 6:30pm.

When you pay for the 6 series, it is set at $90. If you are an active participant (choosing to practice more than 6 sessions within the 8 weeks) those remaining classes are priced at $10/class. A huge incentive (encouragement!!) to participate and learn so much about your body in the field of movement within our fascial framework and scaffolding:  a fresh way to see human architecture in action! This series will be infused with information and knowledge, a felt sense of being and above all: orchestrated in quietude, solitude, more silence and poetry!!

Nourishment for the Soul. Movement for the Spirit.

Yin yoga is meant to be a practice steeped in nourishment. In these 6 weeks we will infuse the cumulative contributions of the physical body, the emotional/mental mind and the energetic harmonization available to us all. Together we will experience, study and question the nature of the connective tissue/fascial system from the superficial layers to deep; we will inquire the nature of our minds “as it is” before we begin to tread new paths and we simmer in the harmonizing shimmer of the meridian and chakra pathways.

“Soul embraces and calls us toward what is most unique in us. Spirit encompasses and draws us toward what is most universal and shared” (Bill Plotkin, Soulcraft)

Please email or call to register. 519-387-6204 or sneedham7@gmail.com

Yin Yoga ongoing .... Thornbury

  • Google Calendar ICS

Yin Yoga with Stephanie Needham, Friday’s at 10:45 am, Mantra Studio in Thornbury

“You thought that union was a way you could decide to go. But the soul follows things rejected and almost forgotten. Your true guide drinks from an undammed stream.” (Rumi)

A yin practice invites you to pause for some time at the edges of your true guide. Steeping with attention and intention into connective tissue/fascial vibrancy available to us, we follow the fluidity of this tissue guiding us into undammed streams. This practice threads together the science of the connective tissue as target tissue in a yin practice, Daoist’s principals and mindfulness meditation.
